The Felt : Why not you ?
Why not you?
It is the most sophisticated, the most adaptable, the most timeless; it matches each season, each silhouette, each face; it can be Fedora, a Trilby, a Bombe or a Melon... At the dawn of the last century, being without a hat was unimaginable. From Don Corleone to Pharrel Williams, from Pitti Uomo in Florence to New York Fashion Week, if the felt hat has certainly lost its importance (a gentle euphemism), it is now the hat of insiders and the James Bond girls: Honor Blackman, Virginia North, Jane Seymour and Halle Berry have all dared to wear it. Stylish sartorialists, elegant women and pop culture icons are all crazy about them, so why not you? This autumn, go for sequin... and felt!
If the lightness, flexibility, air permeability and waterproofness of straw hats have made them a real must-have this summer (see: The straw hat ), felt remains by far the reference in terms of hat-making. Its highly resistant texture is the result of a mixture of fibers (hair, in fact) mixed with soapy water. There are wool, rabbit and beaver felts. Beaver felt is the most popular; it is light, waterproof and protects against the cold, but it is also extraordinarily soft.
Flexible, felt can be stretched and readjusted by means of steam projection; timeless, it is as much at home in a country game as in an urban landscape. But which hat to choose?
Against all expectations, the felt hat is more likely to add a casual touch to your outfit these days: a nice Trilby, for example, will always add a casual touch to a very conventional outfit. The Fedora is, without a doubt, the most popular hat. During the weekend or at work, it can be easily worn.
The Melon or the bombe, on the other hand, are still the city hats by excellence: the unique signature of every elegant gentleman or city woman. Far from adding weight to an already sophisticated outfit, the hat offers the opportunity for a healthy "twist", a style adjustment. At the time of the new school year, doesn't the felt appear to be the obvious choice for the back-to-school season? BE HAT!
